Left fumes as Trump admin steps up immigration screening

A new immigration policy that would bar entry to foreigners who are deemed “anti-American” is angering the Left.
US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced on Tuesday that immigration officers will view “anti-American activity” as “an overwhelmingly negative factor” when considering applications. Now, when authorities vet applicants by reviewing their backgrounds and social media, they will search for any indications of anti-American sentiment.
The new guidance does not define the term “anti-American,” but states that those involved with terrorism or “who support or promote anti-American ideologies or activities, antisemitic terrorism, antisemitic terrorist organizations, and antisemitic ideologies” will likely be denied.
“America’s benefits should not be given to those who despise the country and promote anti-American ideologies,” said USCIS spokesman Matthew Tragesser in a press release.
The announcement comes as pro-Palestinian activists increase their calls for America’s destruction and openly state that the pro-Palestine movement’s true goal is “to destroy the United States.” But efforts by the Trump administration to deport these activists have been met with resistance by the Left, sometimes successfully. Mahmoud Khalil, a Syrian-Lebanese migrant who praised the October 7th massacre and led the pro-Hamas occupation of Columbia University, continues to remain in the US with the help of legacy media and liberal judges.
Outrage: Applicants will have to ‘do a whole lot more work’
The Left has reacted to the new USCIS policy with outrage. CNN ran an article accusing the Trump administration of “McCarthyism,” claiming the new policy is “stoking confusion and alarm.” The outlet claimed people are now “worried that the vague wording and lack of clear definition would give immigration officers the power to crack down further on immigration, regardless of a genuine threat.”
To support its claim, the article cited a single Reddit post in which a user frets that the US government might not allow entry to pro-Palestinians or those who opposed US strikes on Iran. CNN also quoted an X post by Aaron Reichlin-Melnick, a senior fellow at the far-Left American Immigration Council, where the accusation of McCarthyism originated.
The Associated Press ran a similar article slamming the policy. The news outlet quoted a professor at Brigham Young University who complained that aspiring immigrants will now have to do “a whole lot more work.”
“For me, the really big story is they are opening the door for stereotypes and prejudice and implicit bias to take the wheel in these decisions. That’s really worrisome,” said sociology Professor Jane Lilly Lopez. “It means you are going to just do a whole lot more work to provide evidence that you meet our standards.”
