New Yorkers prepare to flee after Muslim socialist clinches election victory

Real estate brokers report being flooded with calls from New Yorkers seeking to leave New York City after Muslim socialist Zohran Mamdani won the Democratic mayoral primary on Wednesday.

“The amount of lifelong New Yorkers texting me [about a move to Florida] is close to shocking,” real estate broker Nathan Zeder told Lydia Moynihan at the New York Post. “People are frightened and over the next three to four months we’re going to see a lot of people consider South Florida again — it’s going to be a COVID level of interest,” he added. “These are people who can afford to move with relative ease.”

Moynihan said she spoke to New York-based venture capitalists and investors who are looking to divest from New York City after Mamdani’s win. They’re reconsidering investments in New York real estate and looking at more palatable locations like Palm Beach, or even Milan and Uruguay.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis predicted that Mamdani will trigger more investments in Palm Beach. “Just when you thought Palm Beach real estate couldn’t go any higher…” he quipped this week after polls showed Mamdani taking the lead.

Real estate agent Ryan Serhant told Moynihan he expects to be moving investments to Florida.

“My number one job will be moving people from New York to Florida. Again,” Serhant said. “Based on the results, clients are going to hold off on making any kind of investment in New York City.” Serhant showed Moynihan an email from a client, saying: “We are going to take a break from looking until there’s more clarity on the mayoral election.”

Who is Zohran Mamdani?

Mamdani is a member of the far-Left Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) who believes “capitalism is theft.” He has promised to establish government-run grocery stores, provide free public transportation, freeze rent prices, and offer universal childcare. He has vowed to crack down on wealthy New Yorkers, and has pledged to allocate $65 million in taxpayer funds for “gender-affirming care” for children and adults—or what ethical doctors call medical mutilation.

The Uganda-born Mamdani has frequently complained about “Islamophobia” and has called for defunding the police. After his election victory on Wednesday, he promised to “weed out bigotry” and proposed an 800% increase in funding for “hate crime prevention programs.” Mamdani’s outward hostility toward Israel has sparked fears of Islamic antisemitism, which Mamdani so far denies.

“Florida got a big win last night,” Florida state lawmaker Jimmy Patronis tweeted after Mamdani’s win. “With the NYC election, more cash is about to move to Florida from the newly socialized People’s Republic of New York City. Enjoy the bread lines, we’ll take your billionaires.”
